We are a small engineering consultancy, offering design and documentation of projects in the areas of civil, structural and coastal engineering.

We are based in Somerton Park, South Australia, and undertake work throughout Australia. Our clients include general industry, government departments, local government councils, as well as the general public.

We offer personalized service and practical engineering solutions, along with quality engineering design.

About us

Magryn and Associates Pty. Ltd. is a small structural and civil engineering consultancy based in Adelaide, South Australia, and undertaking work throughout Australia. We offer design services and expertise in civil and structural engineering, with a specialty in the area of coastal engineering.

We have permanent professional engineers and technical officers/drafters on staff, and specialist engineers contracted as required. Computer analysis of structures is available using Microstran (3-D analysis program), Cold Steel, LIMSTEEL, Steel 41 and additional programs in the specific areas of timber, masonry, retaining walls and others.

Documents are generally produced using Microsoft Word, Excel and Autocad. Drawing plotting services are available in-house up to A1 size. We also have the CEM (Coastal Engineering Manual) software (full version) from US Army Corporation of Engineers, in-house.

The principal engineer (Mr. Magryn) is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, and is a Registered National Professional Engineer (Section 3) for Civil and Structural Engineering and a Chartered Professional Engineer.

The consultancy was formed in 1994 and undertakes design and documentation in the following fields:

Structural Design

• Industrial warehouse or commercial building design for steel frame or concrete buildings, including modifications and extensions. (Tilt-up concrete design also undertaken) to AS3600 and AS4100.
• Design of cold formed steel structures (commonly sheds to 30m clear span) to AS4600.
• Petrol Service Station design and modifications.
• House footing design (including additions) to AS2870, using computer design to Mitchell method.
• Building inspection for structural/civil integrity including cracking, dampness, drainage, level surveying as either verbal or written report and problem solving.
• Timber structure design to AS1720.
• Aluminium structural design to AS1664.
• Structural Certification of designs.
• Slip floor testing to AS 3661 (wet or dry surfaces).

Civil Design

• Roadway, hardstand and parking area design including site survey and setout, contouring and stormwater design, rigid and flexible pavement design.
• Stormwater system design including hydraulic grade line analysis, pit placement, water capture, pipe and outfall design, and stormwater treatment systems.
• Hardstand area design for container or goods handling.
• Railway design including track alignment and geometry.
• Sewer design to SA Water standards.
• Subdivision design.
• Retaining wall design.

Coastal Engineering

• Structural survey of existing marine structures.
• Design of offshore and coastal structures such as jetties, wharves and beacons including fender design for ships.
• Design of stormwater outfalls.
• Design of breakwaters, marinas, tidal flushed lakes and coastal protection methods.
• Investigation of coastal environment such as sand transport, currents, hydrographic survey, sediment sampling, etc.
• Design of offshore navigation aides for shipping.
• Design of boat ramp facilities.
• Design of vessel pump out facilities.
