Mining

We undertake structural engineering design for several areas of the mining industry including:

  • Raisebore Mining support beams and foundations
  • conveyor belt support systems
  • large holding tank design

Mining engineering varies from normal engineering design in that it tends to be very heavy. Emphasis is placed on long term performance and ability to perform under adverse conditions, rather than design to particular and limited specifications; and economic design is secondary to performance.

Loads in mining engineering tend to be very large, with some machines exerting over a million pounds of force, or 500 tonnes. These need careful consideration to control and spread the loads, often in areas of unstable or weak ground.

Materials used in mining tend to be large steel sections, thick steel plate (often heat treated to make it very tough and durable) and heavily steel reinforced or mass concrete.
