Various other projects have developed in areas which tend to require a structural engineering input.

These include:

• HARKK Screen Systems - patented screen and balustrade systems in extruded aluminium posts and glass, now used world wide.

• Works of art by various artists - these often require engineering to create the effect required by the artist, and ensure that the artwork performs satisfactorily and is safe. We have undertaken work for various artists around South Australia, to ensure that the completed work:
  • has the form they desire,
  • is safe and long term stable,
  • is vandal resistant,
  • and includes features they need, such as pumped water flow, lighting, pollution entrapment, etc.

• Equipment foundation design for static and dynamic machinery in factory installations. Some of these may include tight tolerances on long term footing movement, and some with vibration/frequency resonance problems during normal operation.

• Design of precast concrete boardwalk system, now sold worldwide, for Ecoform. The "new boardwalk system" has many advantages over conventional timer boardwalks including longevity, speed of installation and a pleasing appearance.

Shade & Tensile Structures

We undertake a large number of designs for shade structures of differing shapes, sizes and configurations. These range from simple shades to large architectural designs, to specialized designs such as barrel vault shades. Shades may be in shadecloth or impermeable PVC membrane.

Generally clients like their shades to be as "free" and "unrestrained" as possible; however, all shades have the common problem that they develop very large internal forces. The balance and restraint of these internal forces requires careful consideration, and all of our shades are computer modelled in three dimensions to reflect their actual performance in the field.

Shade structures are generally designed and fully documented, ready for council certification and construction.
